Chinas Oaxaqueñas - These are the representative women of Oaxaca, They are the leaders of all celebrations, parades, and festivals for the state. They open The Guelaguetza Festival by dancing to Jarabe del Valle and welcoming all other indigenous communities from the eight regions of Oaxaca. They carry baskets on their heads decored with shaped flowers arrangement symbolizing the beginning of the rosary for the deceased. Their baskets also carry gifts and foods that they will share with their guests.
